COLT Aug 14: Javier Milei, Niger and photosynthesis

Niger : Situation in hands of junta

There is no progress in the situation at Niger. The coup by the presidential guards which toppled the democratically elected government of president Bazoum, still not released the imprisoned president, neither it showed any signs of yielding to the warnings of ECOWAS, the regional trading and security block, backed by the West, the US and UN.

ECOWAS has threatened with a military action if the toppled government is not reinstated and had given Sunday, August 6, as deadline to the junta. It has already passed.

ECOWAS ordered the deployment of military force to reinstate ousted president

With the backing of Russian mercenary group Wagner, Mali, and Burkina Faso, it has assumed international confrontational nature with France, West, and the US on the other side.

The residents of Niger strongly stood behind the junta and protested any interference. The protests are particularly harsh on France. There were reports in media about the protests against the frecnh, who were former colonists, but largely silent and hardly publishing details about neocolonialism that is exploiting the region and keep people in poverty and the environment in dire conditions. AP says that Niger’s junta gains the upper hand over the regional bloc ECOWAS, threatening military force

Photosynthesis may not help carbon reduction as assumed earlier

We all know plants use sunlight and carbon in the atmosphere to produce energy necessary for its survival. The carbon intake by plants in the process led many to believe that the photosynthesis rate would increase with the increasing carbon due to global warming.

So, these experts assume that photosynthesis in plants may help reduce carbon and, to some extent, the effect of global warming.  In a jolt to believers that photosynthesis would help reduce carbon, a piece appeared in New Scientist written by Jason Arunn Murugesu reports

Photosynthesis process

A modeling study suggests that increases in photosynthesis have slowed since 2000, opposing previous research that said this effect would remain strong, helping to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

This is a revelation, really, for those who believe that despite all the callous human activities, nature will set the things right automatically and save the mankind from the effects of global warming. With the wild fires volcanoes, floods raging on in many countries, and deforestation on various excuses, thousands of acres of forest are already destroyed.

Continued use of fossil fuels and other sources have added to global warming. From the frenzy of the uncontrollable natural calamities gripping the world, it appears that the earth is trying to shake off the effects of rising temperatures.

Some 30 years back, thinkers have presented our earth as a living creature where we are harboring as a parasite. Just like a human body carries a parasite that burrows deep in the flesh, multiply, and colonize the body. The human body tries to eliminate the pathogen by raising its temperature that we term as fever. The first line of defense. There is some sort of similarity. It’s an interesting analogy.
