When will the world attend Sudan?
Sudan is facing a complex crisis where the power struggle between military and paramilitary forces shows no signs of abatement. The strife that started in 2023 saw more than 12 million displaced due to violence. Food scarcity and collapsed economy aggravated hardships of commons. Sudan is an African Arab country because it is in Africa, and 97 percent of people speak Arabi language and are Sunni Muslims with a small minority of Christians. In September 2020, Sudan constitutionally became a secular state after Sudan’s transitional government agreed to separate religion from the state, ending 30 years of Islamic rule and Islam as the official state religion in the North African nation. On October 24, 2021, the Sudanese military, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, took control of the government in a military coup. Present crisis stemmed from the power tussle between The Sudanese Armed Forces – SAF and Rapid Support Forces – RSF. It is one of the major world problems and biggest in Africa. There is an immediate need for intervention restoring normalcy.

Science is puzzled by the presence of oxygen bubbles at the depth of 13000ft below sea surface. The metallic nodules scattered on the sea bed containing cobalt, Manganese, Nickel are sources of oxygen to deep sea life. This discovery in the Indian and Pacific Oceans points out how cautiously mankind should go about deep sea mining and the damage its callous use can cause to the marine ecosystem. EU membership eludes Turkey while Cyprus, too, is not a NATO member!… & the Cyprus problem enters into the 50th year!
Cyprus can not be a NATO member. The membership requires the approval of all member-nations, including Turkey!
And Turkey still isn’t in the European Union. The accession treaty must be signed and ratified by all member states, including Cyprus!
Of course, the dismal human rights record and deficit in rule of law helping Turkey with another distinction helping EU keep pending the proposal.
On July 20, 1974, Turkey, under the pretext of another happening of a coup by Greek Junta against the legitimate Cyprus government , invaded Cyprus. Uncaring for the international law in UN Charter and all other negotiations afterward, succeeded in halving Cyprus in two and though the one under the Turkey has a government now, the Turkey army stayed put in half of the country.
It ( the dispute) is the legacy of 82 years of British rule over Cyprus, too! Britain still has the overseas territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia on Cyprus island.
So, while the great Empire of the past and former great colonist who occupied half of the world hail democratic values and advice other countries, the 50th year of its division is celebrated in half and mournfully reflected on in another half of Cyprus! Details in the links
