Latvia was a part of Soviet Russia.It became independent in 1991 after the fall of Soviet Russia. Still, more than a third of its population speaks Russian. Russia often criticized Latvia of the discriminatory treatment to the Russian speaking population. There are border disputes, too. Russia Ukraine war made the Baltic States severe their diplomatic ties with Russia. Russia threatened with asymmetric measures, particularly in the economic and transit spheres. Reuter reported that Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia called on the European Union on Wednesday, 26 June to build a 700-kilometer defense line along their border with Russia and Belarus to protect the EU from military threats and other harmful actions from Moscow .Latvia had started erecting concrete anti tank pyramids on its border, known as ‘Dragons teeth!’
