‘Doha talks’ continues! Ceasefire & release of Israeli hostages hang in balance.
The ongoing peace talks between Israel, US, Egypt, and Qatar have entered the second day. Hamas is not attending. Though the attendees stay resolute in finding a solution, overall mood stays solemn. A link to the latest status of the meeting is given below β¬οΈ
AlJAZEERA reports that
‘Attempts at talks started in November with Hamas pushing for an end to all hostilities, the release of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli jails, and the return of displaced people to their homes in northern Gaza. Israel is balking at those demands.’ A link to the news is given below β¬οΈ
Wikipedia information on the status of released hostages is as follows:

IsraelβHamas war hostage crisis – Wikipedia
The terrible incident of Hamas attacking Israel in October last year and continued Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip saw more than 40000 Palestinians dead. (The figure of human casualties in Gaza Strip as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry). The living conditions in Gaza Strip totally collapsed in the absence of civil services, and nearly 40 percent of buildings are destroyed in the Israeli attacks. Hospitals, schools, and refugee camps are also not spared. Does Israel want to occupy Gaza Strip (a possibility and ultimate aim that is difficult to deny) has come fourth as Israel is not agreeing to two nations theory’. No international pressure so far could stop the relentless Israeli attacks. How many Hamas terrorists are there among the innocent Palestinians killed so far, and how many more will be killed is a big , guilt laden shameful question in this elusive, inhuman hunt!
A strong role of the US in the negotiations and its ability to pressure Israel, and particularly, the adamant Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, appears to be the last resort !…

US Elections 2024
The Jewish population in the US is 2.4 percent-7.5 – 8 million. 5.8 million adults ( Pew Research Center Jewish Americans in 2020), while the Muslim population is 1.7 percent nearing to 3.4 million. A strength, election candidates can not ignore. Trump attacked Harris for not attending Netanyahu’s speech in the American senate and also termed Democrats as ‘ radicals’. Netanyahu personally visited and met Trump. When Obama was in power, the US – Israel relations were strained. After Trump assumed power, the relations grew thick. Biden and Harris are now compelling Netanyahu for a ceasefire, and the Biden government is actively participating and leading in the Doha negotiations. Harris, too, though, expressed her disapproval of the present attacks in Gaza, met Netanyahu afterward. American aid, too, opened up to Israel. Trump also said anti-Israeli activists with hundreds of thousands of people will protest at the upcoming Democratic convention at Chikago. In the same breath, he told that he would never allow Jihadists in America under his leadership. The US elections are now in the midst of heavy election campaign times. Biden’s faded debate performance and shaky appearances spread a wave of disappointment in the Democratic camp. But his ( Joe Biden) subsequent withdrawal from the elections and Kamala Harris’ entry as presidential candidate brought back Democrats in the competition. She straight away took on Trump, challenged him, and engaged in tough talks, earning her a lead in the present campaign. Election Pundits now are engaged in a statewise analysis of popularity of both candidate and their political parties. While Biden was in the fray, the independent and third front party candidates like Robert F Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, Jill Stein, and Chase Oliver had assumed impotance and speculted to take a large chunk of Democrat votes. But with the entry of another strong candidate like Kamala Harris , now there is a straight fight between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In the state level comparison, many lay stress on Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin states to give landslide victory chances. A link to statewide analysis by Newsweek.com is given below.β¬οΈ

The lowering of prescription drug prices for Medicare is declared as a big saver by the president and vice president duo. A reduced medical bill for the older senior citizen will certainly offer relief. The exact discount is difficult to calculate due to factors like individual insurance plans, and the Medicare offered cuts are not applicable to the full list price. A link follows π

Ukraine invasion
From UNITED24Media Telegram Channel
NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, has commented on Russia’s sluggish and disjointed reaction to Ukraine’s military operations in the Kursk region. According to Cavoli, Russia is struggling to determine who should be responsible for addressing hostilities within its borders. Additionally, Moscow faces a shortage of available military reserves to counter Ukraineβs advances in Kursk.Cavoli highlights that a significant portion of Russia’s ground forces are tied up in Ukraine, leaving few reserves within Russia itself. The remaining units are largely made up of conscripts who are legally barred from being deployed in Ukraine, resulting in slower mobilization. He also notes that while Russia has transferred a large number of air forces to the Kursk region, the extent and effectiveness of any additional ground force reinforcements remain unclear. The general underscores that some units from eastern Ukraine have been moved to the Kursk region, but it is uncertain how quickly these forces can be deployed or how much priority they will be given compared to other areas of war.
