The Middle East is again on a boil after IDF soldiers found bodies of 6 hostages. There is  a plethora of reactions from  involved nations.  US is facing the burnt at home in the hectic and critical times of the  presidential election, and its influence is prompting the US to  carve out a deal.

Both Israel and Hamas have their eyes set on their respective targets.   From Israel’s side, it is  the annihilation of Hamas, and for Hamas, IDF soldiers must leave Gaza Strip. Both are accusing each other of not helping the deal to succeed.

There were huge protests against the Netanyahu government over its method of  hostage rescuing  and the protesters blamed the government for its failure. A fairly large proportion of the population feels that diplomacy should have followed to release the hostages instead of waging war with  Hamas. Immediately, there are counter protests by the right wing of Israel – Right wing Gvura Forum. ( Heroism Forum – it consists of families of soldiers killed in present Israel- Hamas war).

‘The Times of Israel’ reported National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir declaring  “we are using our power in the government to prevent a reckless deal.” He adds, “With Hamas, you need to speak only between gunsights.”

The deal is not working

Itamar Ben-Gvir is an Israeli lawyer and politician who has been leading the far-right party Jewish Power (Otzma Yehudit) since 2019 . He has served as Israel’s minister of national security since 2022 . He has been involved in various controversies, including inciting violent clashes between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in East Jerusalem and making highly controversial visits to the Temple Mount .

Update

President Benjamin Netanyahu asks forgiveness from Israelis for not bringing those 6 hostages live & says Hamas will pay a heavy price for it.

At the crucial juncture for the Ceasefire and hostage deal, the heinous killing of 6 hostages not only sent the deal reeling back but also brought forth the cruel cat & mouse strategy of Hamas to a shocked world!

The  unceasing Israeli attacks  reached an unthinkable figure of 40602 casualties. And, what is more unfortunate is the fact that it is not sufficient to bring Hamas and Israel to an agreeing point of ceasefire. It also underlines the scant respect paid to human life by Hamas and the Israel president. For both, the hostages become just pawns waiting to be slaughtered to give a decisive push to the prevalent condition. The events are very tragic, and one can only imagine what the emotional state of bereaved families and friends of the dead from both sides will be.

The American desperation is obvious, and the time has come for the US to deal FIRMLY with both Hamas, Israel, and other  Arab countries that can force Hamas.

The reckless statements of other Middle East countries, too, make the situation volatile; like Turkey’s sudden warning of the invasion of Israel. One can only speculate on the indirect and secret role and involvement of other countries into it.

The simmering tensions between the US and Iran have also added an awkward angle to the efforts to secure peace. Iran has already vowed to revenge Israel after killing Hamas top political boss Haniyeh on Iranian soil. Unless the killing and revenge cycle is broken by a real stick and carrot dash by the US, life in the Middle East  is unlikely to return to sanity.
