Russian operatives created fake news stories and used automated bots to amplify their reach, targeting swing states and vulnerable demographics. The Internet Research Agency (IRA), a Russian troll firm, was indicted for interfering in the election by creating and disseminating propaganda.
Investigations revealed contacts between Trump campaign officials and Russian operatives, including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and campaign manager Paul Manafort.The US intelligence community, Congressional investigations, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation have confirmed Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.
