Oil exploration & industry compelled controlling foreign governments:
In the 1930s US & Britain started to extract newly found oil reserves in Iran and afterward were successful in establishing pro – West governments in Iran for unhindered access to oil. Iran didn’t possess the necessary machinery and industry. UK and US have high stakes in Iranian oil, and they took care that the goverments in rule remain pro Western. They almost keep Iran unpaid or share a meager margin. It soon fanned nationalistic fand anti Western feelings amongst young Iranians. And, soon oil reserves in Iran were nationalized. US and UK handled internal politics in such a way that the Nationalist PM was imprisoned at his home, and the pro Western ruling government established allowing easy oil extraction and huge profits for multinational oil corporates.

The dynastic rule of pro-West governments stay loyal to them. But the Islamist hardliners were not. Ayatollah Khomeini was soon able to spread anti Western culture propaganda and toppled the government, declaring Iran an Islamist Republic. Iranian pro-west ruler – Shah Pehelwi fled Iran. Soon after, Iranian students attacked the US consulate in 1979 and held the American staff captive for more than 400 days. The hostages could be freed only after the mighty US yielded unconditionally to Iran. Since then, the Iranian presence and dominance in the Middle East disapproved by the US.
Iran was Persia
Iran of the past was not less than the ‘superpower country’. Iran was known then as Persia. The Persians started to follow Islam religion once the Arab invasion started, and soon, Muslim religion became the main religion. (Though the traits of Persian culture are still intact in Iran. It is noteworthy that Israel and the US are trying to rejuvenate Persian spirit to topple present Khamenei controlled government and are trying to effect a regime change) Iran accepted Shia sect of Muslim religion while the Middle-East was dominated by Muslims of other sect- The Sunni sect.
Position of Iran in volatile Middle-East & vis-a-vis with the US
Saudi Arabia, other Arab nations, and Iran were often at crossroads. Iran’s military power was always a cause of concern. US and Israel have always accused Iran of supporting and supplying money and weapons to terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Houthis, and Hamas.The majority of the Middle-East nations are anti-Israel, the US backs Israel along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Jordan, etc. US was successful in bringing these anti Israel, anti- Iran, and pro – Palestine nations to enter into Abraham’s accord. The majority of these nations do not have friendly relations with Iran, and the Abraham accord has isolated Iran further. Earlier, a fear of regional imbalance was spread in Middle-East after Iran started Uranium enrichment.Western nations, along with Israel, accused Iran of preparing an atom bomb and imposed economic sanction. After frequent checking by IARA ( International Atomic Research Agency) and constant pressure and meetings by US, Russia, China, and European nations, Iran entered the nuclear deal to stop enrichment, and the sanctions were lifted. But after Donald Trump assumed the US presidency, the US had walked out the deal and reimposed sanctions. The genocide in Palestine by Israel continued unhindered in the absence of strong and unified resistance by Muslim countries. This has encouraged Israel to attack Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria for harboring Hamas, Houthi, and Hezbollah terrorists to avenge the Hezbollah terrorists’ attack on Israel. Iran started halting shipping traffic in the Hormuz straits. The Houthis started to fire missiles on international oil carrying tankers, making sea trade routes extremely dangerous and blocking trade. A new Al-Sharaa interim government in Syria diminished Iranian influence in Syria . Saudi Arabia and Iran have always competed for dominance over the volatile Middle-East region. Turkey acted as middleman for the Russia Ukraine war to allow grain shipping through the Black Sea. Turkey is already a member nation of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) – a European military organization backed by the US and pro US.US and Russia ; US and China; US and Iran are against each other . Russia might stay nutral as it is heavily sanctioned and engaged in war with Ukraine . To isolate Iran from the Muslim world further , the US had sided with Pakistan. Turkey and Pakistan are friends. It was Turkey supremo Erdogan who, with Saudi King, introduced Syrian Al-Sharra , the transient Syrian president with the US president, and helped lift sanctions against Syria. Geopolitics is unpredictable and ever changing except one unchanged factor – neglected wellbeing of common people . Today’s enemy nation is tomorrow’s friend nation. The petty trade gains , business profits, and lure of political power made the powerful blind. People, though realizing and aware of it, are helpless in the absence of value oriented moral politics.
